Sam's Journey

I CAN RULE THAT - Trip Profile

AFL legend and personality Sam Newman and 4-time World Aerobics Champion Sue Stanley OAM will set off from Queenscliff on Monday May 27, for a once in a lifetime adventure. Aboard Sam’s 66-foot yacht ‘Angst’, the duo will take three weeks to boat to the Whitsunday region of Queensland, spreading awareness of prostate cancer to remote regions and raising vital funds for RULE Prostate Cancer along the way.

In 2008, Newman was diagnosed with prostate cancer after a standard blood test. Newman who will be 80 next year, is living proof that prostate cancer need not be a death sentence, especially when detected early. Sam is encouraging other men to get checked early, rather than when it’s too late. One is 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and those in remote areas have a 24% higher rate of dying from prostate cancer compared to their urban counterparts.

Where will the funds raised go?

Prostate Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed male cancer in Australia and sadly takes the lives of 3500 men every year.

Funds raised from Sam's journey will enable us to conduct further research on innovative treatments for men with advanced prostate cancer. This includes clinical trials with new radionuclide therapies, which are showing promising signs of extending and improving the quality of men's lives.
